Ab Diet
The Ab Diet is one of the hot new diets being touted by celebrities and movie stars today. It was created by David Zinczenko and is being promoted by the Men's Health magazine, of which he is the editor.
The Ab Diet's main claim is that it says it will flatten your stomach in just six weeks and help you stay lean for life. This is a rather general claim, but it does seem to be true.
They also say their Ab Diet isn't just another fad diet but one you can actually live with for the rest of your life. Given that most people who go on fad diets give up after just a few weeks, it seems to me that this is a critical part of any diet that hopes to be successful. Good stuff and it seems to be true as well.
The diet goes on to claim that by following it, you will lose 12 pounds of fat in two weeks, learn 12 magical foods that can strip your away fat, learn how to turn fat into muscle, look and feel younger, supercharge your sex life and live pain free.
Here's where they start to lose me.
To lose 12 pounds in two weeks you'd have to burn 3000 calories more than you take in each day. I believe that's called starvation and is very difficult to do not even considering the health risks. What's more, most people don't need 3000 calories to maintain their weight so even starving wouldn't result in enough of a calorie deficit to reach the goal. An extraordinary claim and strike one against the Ab Diet.
How about turning fat into muscle? Well..no diet plan, including the Ab Diet, can turn fat into mucle. It's just not possible. You might lose fat through dieting and gain muscle through exercise, but food simply will not convert fat into mucle. Strike two.
Look and feel younger? Pain management? Yes, the Ab Diet will do that. Any good weight loss diet can help you look and feel younger as well as play a role in your sex drive and pain management. No big news here.
So what about the 12 "magical" foods that can strip away fat? Now we're getting into the "meat and potatoes" of the Ab Diet. It's make or break time.
